Mafic intrusions in southwestern Australia related to supercontinent assembly or breakup?

چکیده

Variably oriented dolerite intrusions outcrop in the Albany–Fraser Orogen along south coast of Western Australia with previously unknown ages but where previous studies interpreted Mesoproterozoic to Cretaceous emplacement. Here, we place temporal constraints on seven mafic across ∼150 km using zircon U–Pb, apatite and plagioclase 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, coupled whole-rock major trace-element geochemistry, that reveal late potentially Early crystallisation ages. Three metamorphosed greenschist facies are likely associated either emplacement ca 1210 Ma Marnda Moorn large igneous province or Stage II Orogeny, both which were assembly Rodinia. unmetamorphosed dykes have (probable) Neoproterozoic lower Cambrian ages, 550–500 Kuunga Orogeny during Gondwana assembly. The final sill, also unmetamorphosed, strikes perpendicular other six intrusions, shows unusual Pb anomalies contains inherited has been reset by a Permian younger event, pointing towards magmatism southwestern breakup Gondwana. new results provide hitherto unrecognised intrusive evidence for modification Proterozoic crust, Rodinia assembly, Australia. KEY POINTSVariably southwest dated U–Pb methods. The related (ca 1200 Ma), 550 Ma) and, probably, 135 Ma).These activity clearly linked supercontinent cycle.

Title Neoproterozoic arc-related mafic intrusions along the northern margin of South China: Implications for the accretion of Rodinia

South China has been considered as part of the Rodinian supercontinent during Neoproterozoic time, although its paleogeographic position within this supercontinent is still a matter of debate. The Wangjiangshan and Bijigou complexes along the northern margin of South China are among the largest mafic intrusions in China. New SHRIMP zircon U-Pb results indicate that these two intrusions have cry...

Age and Provenance of the Beardmore Group, Antarctica: Constraints on Rodinia Supercontinent Breakup

New U-Pb ages for detrital and igneous zircons constrain the depositional age and sedimentary provenance of the Beardmore Group, a siliciclastic succession that records transformation of the East Antarctic margin during Rodinia breakup and subsequent Gondwana amalgamation. We divide rocks previously mapped as the Beardmore Group into (1) an inboard late Neoproterozoic assemblage (probably ≤670 ...

PRECAMBRIAN RESEARCH CENTER PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES Field, Petrographic, and Mineralization Characteristics of Mafic Layered Intrusions

The Sonju Lake intrusion (SLI) is a 1200-m-thick, shallow-dipping, sheet-like intrusion that forms part of the Beaver Bay Complex (RI-58, Chapter 7). Although its exposed strike-length is only about 3 km (Fig. 3-1), the SLI has a distinctive aeromagnetic signature that can be traced for at least 20 km beneath a cover of glacial drift. The nearly constant width of its aeromagnetic anomaly sugges...

Intrusions in episodic memory: reconsolidation or interference?

It would be profoundly important if reconsolidation research in animals and other memory domains generalized to human episodic memory. A 3-d-list-discrimination procedure, based on free recall of objects, with a contextual reminder cue (the testing room), has been thought to demonstrate reconsolidation of human episodic memory (as noted in a previous study). Our goal was to replicate the centra...
